RAYMOND 鈥 A pair of honors students at 黑料网 have been recognized by state-level organizations.

Joanna Stevens, of Terry, won an award for best poster presentation in the two-year college category at the 2018 Mississippi State Honors Conference held Feb. 2-3.

The poster鈥檚 theme was Cervical Cancer Risk Factors for Women with HIV: Recommendations to Decrease Mortality and cited research from various sources in the biomedical community. Stevens completed a Service Scholar internship last year with Mississippi INBRE (IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence) and was one of two students in the state to present a poster at the network鈥檚 regional meeting in West Virginia.

Stevens is a member of the Gamma Lambda chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at the Raymond Campus, the All-Mississippi Academic Team, a Who鈥檚 Who scholar and has been nominated for the 3E Outstanding Student Award.

Lauren Ferguson, of Kosciusko, will present a research paper at the Alabama-Mississippi Sociological Association鈥檚 annual meeting Feb. 22-23.

The paper, titled 鈥淭he Carney: Exploited Laborer or Thrill Seeking Adventurer,鈥 will be presented in competition with other works for a $100 prize. Ferguson is a member of the Alpha Omicron Omega chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at the college鈥檚 Rankin Campus.

 

The state honors conference, hosted this year by Jackson State University, brings together directors and deans of Honors programs from colleges and universities across the state.

The sociological association supports the research of scholars from two- and four-year academic institutions.
