Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran visited 黑料网 Tuesday, Sept. 2, to connect with students, faculty and alumni.
He addressed a crowd of about 100 people in the lobby of Cain-Cochran Hall, named after his parents, Emma Grace and W.H. Cochran, Hinds alumni who were educators in Pontotoc, Tippah, and Hinds counties.
鈥淚 feel at home here,鈥 he said. 鈥淢y parents cared deeply about education and its importance. There is nothing more important than having access to quality teaching and institutions of higher learning that care about each and every one of their students.鈥
Sen. Cochran is amongst other members of Congress spending the last week of the summer recess visiting with constituents in their home state.
鈥淥ur students were eager for the opportunity to meet and speak with Sen. Cochran, and he was gracious in his response to the many photos they requested,鈥 said Colleen Hartfield, vice president for Community Relations.
Hinds President Dr. Clyde Muse spoke about Sen. Cochran鈥檚 commitment to provide federal support, particularly financial aid, for community college students.
鈥淚 am really glad that I got to meet him. As the recipient of the scholarship named in honor of his parents, I was able to personally thank him for the help,鈥 said Sherra Lum, a sophomore student from Port Gibson. 鈥淚t鈥檚 great that he made a stop at Hinds.鈥
