Online Classes Orientation

Online Courses

Online courses are designed for the student who needs an alternative to the traditional classroom. Online courses are a national growing trend and Hinds actively participates in the Mississippi Virtual Community College to provide a generous selection of online courses to students.

How will online courses work?

Online courses are offered through a learning platform called Canvas. All coursework is delivered through Canvas and students are issued a login for the system at the time of registration. Students are only required to come to campus for the occasional proctored exam and can schedule these exams online. Courses are typically offered in a weekly format and students can logon anytime to complete the course work for the week.

It is important that students login the first week of class and complete the check-in assignments to remain on the roll. In addition, Hinds students will be required to use their official Hinds email account for all communication with their instructor. Instructions for accessing this email can be found here.

All students are expected to view the . This tutorial will provide the steps for preparing to take an online class. It is extremely important that students complete the training before the first day of classes in order to fully understand all that is involved with taking online classes. You can refer back to this training at any time during the semester for assistance.

Your courses will be available in Canvas on their start date. You will not be able to access them before this time so please be patient. Good luck and have a wonderful semester!
